I’m embarrassed to admit this, but I’ve been here at home freelancing for the past 5+ years and I never owned a Pantone guide book. I “borrowed” one from LMPM 10 years ago but it’s falling apart and doesn’t include the latest colors. And it’s not a good idea to trust an old book as the colors fade and change over time. I mostly relied on software for color selection, sampling from images for palettes. With this new client and the fact that the materials may be printed long distance I realized that color selection would be critical. So I just ordered Pantone color guides. I went with the 3 book chip set. CreativePro.com has a promotion for 10% off Pantone products plus a free formula guide designer edition (3 fans) for a total of $267.10 plus shipping. I could have saved maybe $10-15 if I bought it from a computer retailer, but then I wouldn’t get the fans so I thought buying from the source was the much better deal.
