In no particular order:
As I previously reported, the install is fast. Very fast. I didn’t customize and it took only 30 minutes.
It looks nice. The menus are crisp and everything feels a little faster. Not incredibly, as the G5 was already very fast. Little things like how fast the menus come and go make a difference. I’ll leave it to sites like Dive into OS X to get into the nitty gritty of the changed interface.
When you close a preference pane the System Preferences application automatically closes. Finally!
I expected to have an error message on restart regarding Palm Transport, and indeed I did. I just took out the Palm-related login items and I’ll worry about that over the weekend. For now, syncing does work on my iBook and I’ll leave it at that.
Photoshop 7, InDesign 2, Illustrator 10 and Font Reserve seem to behave well. As a matter of fact, InDesign seems to show the most improvement. I opened a file that I knew used fonts that aren’t loaded and it opened so quickly, that I didn’t see the Font Reserve box about activating fonts. But the fonts are all there and loaded. Phew. I know I can get back to work on Monday.
Dreamweaver MX 2004 however, didn’t load. I started the app and it quit immediately with no error. I worked on this one for a good 45 minutes until I found the answer posted to the X4U list. I had to dump the Library/Preferences/Macrovision folder. All’s well now I just have to reset DW’s prefs and sites.
My Logitech driver stayed in the Previous System Folder. I’m using the Apple mouse for now. I’ll move it once I know that everything else is working. Same with Timbuktu Pro. Don’t need it immediately. All in good time.
More in the next few days, I’m sure.
