Panther 10.3.1

I finally got around to upgrading to OS X 10.3.1 and the new security update this afternoon. It’s not that big a download, but I have some 3rd party pref panes that I wanted to be sure and uninstall first. Better safe than sorry. It was a quick and easy upgrade and everything (including the 3rd party stuff) is up and running. No problems.

The new security update sneaks in an updated Safari (version 1.1.1) and for some reason, it seems a bit faster than previous versions. I’m not hearing the disk activity and seeing a lag in loading pages as I was with 1.1. I’m trying it as my default browser again and we’ll see how long it takes to either have pages stall on load or have the cache drive me crazy.

So now you tell me?!?

Total Training for InDesign 2 for sale!

Now that I have InDesign CS, I have no need for the Total Training for InDesign 2 DVD set I won at CreativePro last summer. It was worth my time, and I’m hoping to save my pennies to buy Total Training for the CS products (can’t hope to win it again, can I?). Even though I’m comfortable in the applications, there’s always a new trick or tip to pick up in a demo. In the meantime, I’ve put the InDesign 2 set up for auction on eBay. If you’re interested, check it out.

CSS Crib Sheet

Dave over at Mezzoblue is compiling a “CSS Crib Sheet.” He originally called it “CSS Best Practices” but using a word like “Best” in your title can be dangerous, as he found out. A lot of the suggestions he got for inclusion were things like “Favor Relative positioning over Absolute” which is more of an opinion.

His list is a “general rule of thumb” that typically separates those that do web sites with CSS regularly from those that are just starting out and are getting overwhelmed and confused by it all. We’ve all been there. It’s worth a read. If you start out here, then you’re already in a position to avoid many of the pitfalls of CSS and get to the reward (and there are a *ton* of those) much, much faster.

Pampered Chef

I hosted a Pampered Chef party here yesterday. It was a lot of fun, I just wish I still didn’t get so stressed out over entertaining. Some people do it so easily. As social as I am, I can’t be relaxed about this. It probably just takes practice. Thanks to the points I earned I got a few things that I needed for my kitchen. I do like the Pampered Chef products, and I may even do something like this again.

If you like Pampered Chef and would like to order something, feel free to browse their catalog online and let me know in the next week and I can add it to my order (they don’t take orders directly from the website).
