Don’t get me wrong, I like the application. It was just becoming more and more difficult to overcome its shortcomings. It has always bothered me that categories created on a Palm were not carried over to iCal, and iCal calendars were not carried to the Palm. I went back to using Entourage for email a few months ago, and using a script to keep the Address Book on my Palm synced with the address book in my email application was becoming a chore.

But the final straw was this morning, when I realized that every buddy in my iChat buddy list was showing by their AIM/Mac.com name. I had them all set up nicely by First & Last Name, and now for the life of me I can’t remember who brookenluv23 is (not the real screen name, I just made that up). It turns out that when I sync my Palm between the Windows box and the Mac, that field in Address Book is being wiped out by Palm Desktop on the PC ::sigh::

I disabled the iSync conduit and downloaded the Entourage conduit. The fields are more consistent with Palm desktop. Categories, which I’ve come to rely on for my Palm to-do list, are now retained. And the information is more consistently exchanged between the Macs and the PC. I’m still using iSync to keep bookmarks in sync between the G5 and iBook, and I’m syncing the Address Book primarily for iChat buddy names (only the AIM name is retained on the AOL server).
