[Safari](http://www.apple.com/safari) has a feature where you can just type in the part of the URL between the “www.” and the “.com” and it will automatically fill in the rest. Since Safari was my default browser for a while, I got used to it. Firefox is a little different in that you have to remember to hit control-return (on the PC) to force the “www.” and “.com” otherwise it automatically queries Google and comes back with the “I feel lucky” response. Sometimes, most of the time, it’s the right answer. But if you have a URL that is a common-ish word but isn’t a specific brand it doesn’t always take you where you expect to go.
Case in point: my URL. For years, the “I feel lucky” return on a Google query of “momathome” didn’t hit this site. It hit this site: (not linking because I don’t want the situation to change again) http://dmoz.org/profiles/momathome.html. So when I switched to Firefox I had to break the habit of going to my own site by just typing “momathome.”
This morning, I forgot and just typed “momathome” and surprise, I ended up here! Sure enough, I Googled “momathome” and I’m **finally** at the top of the list, beating out the aforementioned dmoz.org and momathome.net. Unfortunately, Googling “Judi” now drops me to page 2 since Google changed the way it indexes and blogs aren’t as preferred as they used to be. Oh well, can’t win them all.
