Chuq’s [entire article](http://chuqui.typepad.com/teal_sunglasses/2005/03/susan_mernits_b.html) on the subject is well worth a read. But this part is worth repeating:

>it’s your blog. Write it the way that you feel most comfortable, about things you are most interested, in a way that you enjoy. Otherwise, you’re going to grow to hate it, and your discomfort (unhappiness, hate, etc) will show through to the readers. If you don’t like/love what you’re doing, why should they? But your love for what you do will infect those around you.

So true! Most of the time my writing makes me cringe. When I have a project that requires writing, I sub it out. I care about my clients and their projects too much to write for them. It’s been over two years and I’m just as invested in my blog now as I was when I started it.

I think a personal blog is an extension of yourself. If you are the type of person who says one thing and does something else, goes back on his/her word, says you’re going to show up and you don’t, etc. then you’re not going to have a lot of friends. Hard and fast “rules” for blogging are silly. When you’re doing it right, you’ll know. Treat your readers/visitors exactly like you would treat your friends and take everything else as it comes.
