I originally titled this “Big screen…eensy weensy fonts” It’s not a criticism, really. The screen on my laptop is gorgeous. But getting over 2 million pixels into a 17“ (diagonal) space does have its consequences. After squinting at the screen for a few days I started experimenting with font and display settings and I’ve decided that Lucida Sans Regular at just 10 point is nicely readable. Apparently it’s not a Windows default font, it was installed with Office 2003.

Most applications default to Tahoma at 8 point, which is otherwise known as ”headache, please.“
It was easy enough to change Tahoma 8 to Lucida Sans Regular 10 in most applications, except for [Trillian](http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/). The font size is set within the skin configuration file, and after some hunting I finally figured out how to change it.
So here’s a tip (and for me if I ever have to do it again):
Quit Trillian and navigate to:
`C:\Program Files\Trillian\skins\(name of skin)\settings.ini`
In my case, the skin I’m using is Whistler, which is a default basic skin. Why is it that most Trillian skins look like they were designed by and for a 12 year old boy?
Open that file in Notepad or any text editor, and change every ”tahoma.ttf“ to ”lsans.ttf“, every ”Tahoma“ to ”Lucida Sans Regular“ and underneath that is the size which you change from ”8“ to ”10“ or whatever you want.
Save and close the file, and restart Trillian. Ah, relief. No more squinting.
