The kids were off from school last week and try as I could, it was difficult to get much done. I got more done today than I did all of last week. Everyone should have a day where the primary goal is to clear those items out of the Task box that have been collecting dust.
* Got confirmation from my attorney that the Title report is in and clear.
* Had the credit union that is doing our new mortgage send said attorney the final mortgage commitment. Was a little back and forth on that…mortgage company wouldn’t issue commitment without clear title, attorney didn’t want to order title report without mortgage commitment. Someone had to blink. Who? Well, it wasn’t the guy who was gonna write the big check.
* Spoke with someone at [Comcast](http://www.comcast.com) who confirmed that it won’t be a problem to have a service call to drop another line for the cable modem at the new place. It’s $30 to start the new service, plus $99 installation fee. I could “install it myself” but then I’d be splitting the cable modem line off to the televisions in the house which is simply not an option. With the paid install, they’ll drop the line for me, which is what I needed to hear. Hey, it’s a business expense.
* Sent in a deposit to [Great American Closets](http://www.greatamericanclosets.com) who will do the master closets in the new place. I had the drawings for a while, I just didn’t get the “roundtuit” to really review them and finalize the details. We decided to “do” the closets instead of buying complete bedroom furniture. Now we only need a bed (king size), end tables and something to hold the TV in the corner and the master bedroom is good to go. Besides that we need furniture for the kids’ room (they’ll share, so we’re getting rid of two rooms of furniture and replacing it with one), a coffee table and side chair(s) for the living room, a dinette for the eat-in kitchen (small, not much space here), a couch of some kind for the family room, a small corner entertainment unit for the family room and a china closet for the dining room.
* Spoke with the mover. Nice guy, came recommended from my mother and some of her friends that had great moves. He wasn’t the cheapest, wasn’t the most expensive of the **eight** movers I interviewed. He’s going to be doing a lot of the packing, and since we’re going to be selling off most of the furniture he’ll come and pack us earlier. We’ll be living out of suitcases and sleeping on mattresses on the floor for most of the month of June I imagine, but we’re used to that kind of living from the [construction](http://www.momathome.com/misc/renovation/index.html) two years ago. At least with a closing date I’ll know exactly when it will end this time.
* Spoke with the handyman in New Jersey who will work in the new place the day after closing, before our stuff arrives. He’s going to boost the electrical “juice” to my office, install an outlet in the garage for a stand-alone freezer and install a garage door opener. The previous owners used the garage for storage only and parked on the street. We plan to use the garage for a car, imagine that.
* Left a message for Pat, formerly of “Those Two Girls” who is a professional tag sale manager. She’ll come in and price everything, handle advertising and all transactions. For the lack of hassle, we give her a percentage of the take. Sounds wonderful!! We’re hoping to take advantage of Memorial Day furniture sales to purchase what we need in New Jersey out of the proceeds of the sale here. We’ll be selling 3 bedrooms worth of furniture, a large sectional, a coffee table, a large entertainment center, a treadmill, a desk, some bookcases and lots of assorted “stuff” that a homeowner needs but a townhomeowner probably doesn’t.
* Did a couple of hours of real work, too!
If you’ve made it this far, here’s a little picture of our new home:

The window over the garage is my office. The balcony is off the master bedroom. I *can’t wait* to downsize and simplify my life. We did the big house thing, and I’m so over it. So many things need constant attention and I don’t want to deal with it anymore. I’d rather save for college than pay what it takes to maintain a larger house. This place is 2100 sq. ft. which is more than enough space for us with a swimming pool, tennis court, playgrounds, etc.
