The developer of [ecto for Windows](http://ecto.kung-foo.tv/) has finally nailed down that category bug I’ve been having. Let’s see if this new build fixes it.
Update: It does.
So now if you use ecto for Windows and you customize your category archive file type then the software will place the post in the correct place and display the category correctly. Thanks, Alex!

The kids were off from school last week and try as I could, it was difficult to get much done. I got more done today than I did all of last week. Everyone should have a day where the primary goal is to clear those items out of the Task box that have been collecting dust.

ecto 2.3

Adriaan Tijsseling just released [ecto 2.3](http://ecto.kung-foo.tv/archives/001365.php) and it’s enough of an upgrade that it’s worth an entry.
I recently registered the [Windows version](http://ecto.kung-foo.tv/archives/001363.php) and while not quite as polished as the OS X version, the lines between the two are starting to blur.
In OS X apps “drawers” are so 2002. The new (read: [Tiger](http://www.apple.com/macosx)) way of doing things is in panels, for lack of a better word. So ecto for Mac OS X is emulating Mail in Tiger, and ecto for Windows is emulating Office 2003 and the result is that the interface is quite similar in many ways.
I’m glad that the OS X version has the status at the bottom of the window the way the Windows version does. I don’t know if it’s my imagination or not, but the Windows version appears to post a bit faster than the OS version. Then again, the Windows version messes up the setting of the categories (I’ve been exchanging email with the developer about the issue).
It’s not listed as a new feature, so I guess it’s something I missed…ecto for OS X has an “Amazon” button by default in the spiffy new toolbar. You can enter your Associates ID and customize the template for a text, text & image or image only link. Search for the product right in the window without hunting links down at Amazon. For example, a search for “Creative Suite 2” pulled up some great titles, such as this one from Sandee Cohen that I’ll have to look at when I have more time.
