Everyone’s talking about it, so I might as well mention it too…if you’re a Mac user who reads Mac websites, then you know that [Mac OS X 10.4 aka Tiger](http://www.apple.com/macosx/) will be released on April 29th.
I did order it…through [Amazon](http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0002G71T0/momathomedesi-20). Picked up [Adobe Creative Suite 2 Standard upgrade](http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00080DQ12/momathomedesi-20) while I was there. Amazon is offering a $35 mail-in rebate on Tiger, plus I got my little [A9](http://www.a9.com) discount so it’s worth waiting for.
I debated skipping this one. Of the new features, the only thing that interests me is [Automator](http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/automator/). But I’ll believe it when I see it. Far too often, an OS feature from Apple has incredible promise but is so limited that it’s little more than novelty and the novelty wears off. iSync, Inkwell, Publish & Subscribe, Cyberdog, to name a few right off the top of my head. I’m disappointed that iCal and FontBook look relatively unchanged. I don’t use iCal, but it would be nice if its invitations worked with Outook.
So I ordered the upgrade for two reasons. One, Eric’s computer (12“ PowerBook) is sorely in need of a thorough cleaning. Back up files and start over kind of cleaning. He probably sees the spinning beach ball in his sleep because he sees it so often in his waking hours. I had to get a file off his drive once and it was painful. I could run all the typical tools to get it to run better, but at this point a fresh install of OS X 10.4 is just the ticket. Second, I’m still planning to eBay my iBook. If I can include the original Panther CDs rather than just the Jaguar system CDs it came with I may get a few extra pennies for it. I only sell computers with legal software. Period.
I’ll put it on Eric’s computer, but I don’t think I’m going to rush into upgrading my G5. Heck, I haven’t upgraded it to 10.3.8 yet. Too busy taking an ”if it ain’t broke“ attitude and all my tech ”play“ time lately has been invested in getting to know my new laptop.

Bah, who needs legal software!
I might be interested in your iBook when you’re ready to sell it. I sold my G5 a few months ago and switched to a PC (for games) and now I feel really out of the loop so I have to speed up my plan to buy an iBook.
Too bad about FontBook being unchanged – It would’ve made Tiger worth it. I’ll probably just stick to Font Agent Pro.
Maura, is it unchanged? Come to think of it now that Tiger is out none of the reviews are talking about it. So I have to assume that FontBook is the same. I did order Tiger but from Amazon to get the discount so I won’t have it for a few days yet. And even when it does come it will be a bit before I install it. I want CS 2 installed first.
Hi Judi,
I read the article about it being relatively unchanged so…. I drew that conclusion, I have yet to purchase Tiger but I am going to the apple store tonight for the unveiling, then I’ll decide.
