Voice recognition

When we moved from New York City to Stamford nearly 9 years ago, I remember spending days making a ton of phone calls to change my address and phone number. Waiting on hold, slowly spelling the city name…S-T-A-M as in Mary-F-O-R-D…

Now, I’m able to relocate my life with a few clicks of a keyboard. 90% of the services we use can either be disconnected or changed by logging into different websites. I get most of my bills through email. I’ll wait until the day before we close to log in and change the mailing address in my online profiles.

A few things still had to be done over the phone. Like our [TV Guide](http://www.tvguide.com) subscription. I get the majority of my magazines through [Zinio](http://www.zinio.com) but a few are still on paper. I couldn’t seem to get the website to recognize my account number so I had to call. Total voice recognition. Got the job done and never spoke to a human, and it was just a little bit creepy how well the computer got what I was saying. Every doomsday movie I’ve ever seen from ["The Net"](http://imdb.com/title/tt0113957/) to ["The Terminator"](http://imdb.com/title/tt0088247/) ["I,Robot"](http://imdb.com/title/tt0343818/) and even ["Westworld"](http://imdb.com/title/tt0070909/) flashed through my mind. Is this how it starts? ;-)
