More movies

In the past few hours I’ve been sent links to two videos worth sharing.

One that made me laugh:

What if Microsoft redesigned the iPod packaging?

Thanks, Erik.

One that made me cry:

Autistic Teen’s Hoop Dreams Come True (story has link to video)

Thanks, Jack. Original link he sent was here but I posted a more direct route above. It’s such a good story, I’ll even let my disgust at the choice of words in the headline go. Why is it so natural to let a disability define a person?

Anyway, the boy’s mannerisms remind me of Laini…hence the cry part. While she doesn’t have a lot of friends in the traditional sense of the word, her peers are just as protective and nurturing of her. It’s a joy to see. I hope she has many moments like that in High School.

Who needs an orchestra when you have a cello and a computer?

From time to time, Digg leads me to something interesting that you wouldn’t see otherwise.

Someone with talent and a lot of time on his hands recorded himself playing 37 separate cello parts and mixed it together in 23 tracks to create one song. Pretty amazing. I could have done without some of the cheesy hey-look-what-I-can-do effects, but it’s worth it to see how he laid the music down layer by layer.

Of course, Digg being the new Slashdot, the guy’s site has been hammered into a steaming pile of goo, so it’s best to watch it on YouTube.

Doogal

If it’s an animated movie, my kids want to see it. So without really looking at the reviews we took the kids to see Doogal today. Mistake. Until today, we thought the Thomas Tank Engine movie was the worst movie we had to suffer through as parents. This was just as bad. Sad because the animation is beautiful. The rendering was so life-like in spots, especially around the hair. I guess they broke the bank on animation and voice talent like Judi Dench, Chevy Chase, Jon Stewart and William H. Macy. Nothing left over for the script. The kids liked it but there aren’t many movies they don’t like.

Personality type

Back in 1985 I completed a MBTI personality profile for the first time. It was part of a Women’s Leadership group I got involved at Clarkson University. The result: ESTJ (Extrovert Sensing Thinking Judging). There’s an online version on this site. It’s short (not nearly as comprehensive as the real thing) and easy and it came up with the exact same result for me.

Myersbrigg2

Ayup. Heavy on the extrovert and sensing, light on the thinking with some judgment on the side.

This is how the Myers-Brigg folks describe the ESTJ personality and it’s so me compared to the other descriptions that it’s a bit scary:

ESTJ
Practical, realistic, matter-of-fact. Decisive, quickly move to implement decisions. Organize projects and people to get things done, focus on getting results in the most efficient way possible. Take care of routine details. Have a clear set of logical standards, systematically follow them and want others to also. Forceful in implementing their plans.

It’s that “forceful” part that keeps getting me in trouble.

We’re looking for some help

C3 needs some freelance help in two areas. If you are interested, please drop me an email or comment. Be forewarned, I publish all comments that are on topic/not spam. So if you don’t want your phone number or address blasted to the world, don’t put them in the comments.

First, I’m looking for someone to help me with a Microsoft Access database. We need to track our inventory. We have newsletter, pins, bracelets, brochures, etc. in our office and we’re getting a lot of requests for materials for health fairs, doctor’s offices, exhibitions, etc. I need for our Office Administrator to be able to record when something is requested, have it automatically deduct from the inventory count, track what items she has sent out and to where, and handle re-orders. Microsoft has an inventory tracking database here that is very close to what I want. I just need it customized for our use. I don’t know enough about Access to make it worth my time to do it myself, but I know exactly what I want. I just need someone who can make it happen.

Second, as I mentioned before, I’m having trouble time management-wise cranking out our newsletter on my own. We’ve already published two issues, one last Fall, and one this Winter. I need someone who is very comfortable in Adobe InDesign CS2 and can take the previous issues and current copy and give me a Spring newsletter on a tight deadline. Use of Acrobat 7 Pro is a plus for review PDFs. Some revisions I may be able to do, some I’ll have to farm out. I’m looking for someone with production skills first, design second.

Takers?
