Firefox 1.5 cache saves the day

One of the improvements in the new [Firefox 1.5](http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/) is in its improved caching of websites:

In previous versions, I usually had caching turned off because it was faster to refetch a page than to pull from the cache.

As I’ve [recently posted](http://www.momathome.com/viewfromhome/2005/12/soberx_worm_bring_down_email.php) Dreamhost has been having some technical difficulties. I composed that [Yahoo entry](http://www.momathome.com/viewfromhome/2005/12/yahooicious.php) and published, but halfway through the rebuild I got an error that my connection to the MySQL database was dropped. Arghh! I kept that tab open in Firefox, and loaded by blog again in a new tab. The entry wasn’t there. Double arghh! Thankfully, I was able to back up from the tab now displaying a MySQL error message to get back to the post I made, copied and pasted to a new entry and it posted. Phew.

If you’re looking for a fantastic Firefox extension that gives you a lot of control over tabs, then get [Tab Mix Plus](https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?application=firefox&id=1122). It lets you set shortcuts for tabs, control how links, bookmarks and external calls open in tabs or windows (so you never accidentally overwrite a tab by loading another page, unless you want to), and best of all it let’s you call back tabs you may have already closed, complete with history. Good stuff.
