Backpack!

If only half the world (or so it seems) wasn’t trying to hit the sign-up page at the same time. Arghh.
**Update:** Was so worth it to keep trying. Finally got the account set up and now that it’s done, it’s very fast. It’s incredible and appears to be exactly what I’ve been looking for. I may not even have to upgrade to a paid account to get everything I need out of it. More later, but in short it’s a very simple, easy, clean personal information manager. The interface is functional yet non-fussy. I have so many little details to keep track of, and this is a way to have it all in one place that I can get to anywhere.
So far my favorite feature is the email to a page. Each page you create in Backpack has an email addressed attached to it. If you’ve ever called your own answering machine to leave yourself a reminder or emailed something to yourself just so you’d have it, it’s the same concept. I created a separate contacts folder in Outlook called “Backpack pages” that contain the email addresses of the pages I’m creating. That way I can keep those addresses separate from real ones and they won’t come up when I’m looking to send someone an email. But I can pull the address up easily when I need to. Send an email to that address with “todo: item title” or “note: item title” in the subject, and then the content in the body of the message and it’s instantly added to that page for you.
In the 30 minutes I’ve been playing with it I’ve already set up a “Blog Worthy” page where I’m throwing those little tidbits we tend to collect. I have a page for clients, a page for “moving” and a page for kids. I’m using the base home page for the personal day to day stuff. The free account comes with 5 pages and 10 reminders you can set so what you send doesn’t fall into a black hole (which tends to be my problem with most web-based or stand-alone project managers). I’ve tried so many and none seem to “fit” me. This just may be the one that makes the cut.
Their blog has a few useful tips & tricks for getting the most out of the service.
